Significance
Nelson Mandela served as an example for equality movements, and left an important mark in the history of South Africa. He witnessed racial oppression in his country, and did everything in his power to change it. His leadership qualities, along with his notable ability to forgive the oppressors makes him the incredible leader that he is. Mandela, although is a famous political rights fighter, we should live our lives following that values that he exemplified through his incredible fight against inequality.
“Nelson Mandela taught the world the meaning of reconciliation and forgiveness; it is a world that for long has been dominated by the vengefulness and cruelty which the dominant nations of the West have used to dominate international relations. Mandela dug deep into the humanism that is intrinsic to the African world view to help people learn to overcome the pains which came with the atrocities of apartheid, itself a bastard offspring of the Western colonial intrusion into Africa." -Is’haq Modibbo Kawu from Nelson Mandela: 20 Years After the Walk that Changed the World
